Chronology The village Ilia was named after the temple of Ilios Apollo, the god of the sun and light, located higher on the mountain Telethrio. Saint George Monastery Above the village and into the green forest is built the monastery of Saint George, which is said to exist since the 16th century. The damages from the Ottomanship were recently renovated. It is well-known for the great architecture which is maintaining the shape of the Byzantine churches. The monastery has been kept female-only since 1971.
