Chronology
The village Ilia was named after the temple of Ilios Apollo, the god of the sun and light, located higher on the mountain Telethrio. The way the village was built has the privilege to combine both the blue peaceful view of the ocean and the ferocious mountainous view.
The locals are mainly working with fishing and agriculture. In the past few years though, and after realizing the big interest by the visitors for the area they started working in the tourism industry.
Visitors can stay in this peaceful and hospitable area in the many rentals offered, located just a few meters from the ocean and while enjoying the culinary suggestions from professional anglers.
Above the village and into the green forest is built the monastery of Saint George, which is said to exist since the 16th century. The damages from the Ottomanship were recently renovated. It is well-known for the great architecture which is maintaining the shape of the Byzantine churches. The monastery has been kept female-only since 1971.
